Poetic Reflections

The Messiah, The message, The messenger

Many years before He came the prophet penned these words,
And I think about the price the Master paid.
He was despised, rejected and He knew the deepest grief,
As the sin of all the world was on Him laid.
He carried all our weakness and our sorrows weighed Him down,
He was pierced for our rebellion and our sin.
He was beaten so we could be whole, whipped, that we might be healed.
We’d all gone astray and it was laid on Him.

But He never said a word, led to the slaughter like a lamb.
Like a sheep before its shearers He was dumb.
But no one cared that He had died, struck down, had done no wrong.
When He looked for His supporters there were none.

However, twas the Father’s will that He be led away.
So that many souls around would come to Him.
He willingly laid down His life as a sacrifice that day.
In mercy now He waits to bring them in.

That’s the work of the Messiah, that’s the message of the cross.
Go ye into all the world and reap.
But there has to be a messenger who takes the message through.
And sacrifices all, each soul to seek.
The work may not be all the same for every messenger.
But we all have a different part to play.
Some may go, some may give, some a word of courage speak.
But greater than the sum of these is to find the need to pray.

Wind in My Sails

It is easy just to sit around and watch the time go by.
Don’t have to think, or plan, or work, just float upon the tide.
There are no demands or schedules to interrupt my peace.
Turn a blind eye to the needs of man and hope the hurts will cease.

Reminds me of quite long ago before the motor came.
When man depended on a breeze, or all things stayed the same.
The saying was, if there wasn’t wind, the ship just never sailed.
There had to be a stirring, or all mans’ efforts failed.

And then I pray, “Dear Lord above, let my movement now begin.
Awake me from these doldrums and stir my soul within.
Help me see through your eyes, interrupt my schedule now.
Even if it brings discomfort, do it anyhow.”

Kingdom Business

From small beginnings come great results, like the tiny mustard seed.

Though smaller than all others, it all other plants exceed.

Like yeast, put in a little and it comes out so very great.

A worldwide impact it will have, hinging on what we donate.

Kingdom business is our goal, it is like the finest pearl.

In a field it’s hidden and we work hard, it riches to unfurl.

It is at hand the scriptures say and we all have the keys.

This gives us the authority to bring people to their knees.

The good news is available to all of humankind.

We must use well what we’ve been given and know the Master’s mind.

He said above all else to seek His kingdom here below.

And everything that we will need, by His grace He will bestow.

Don’t let personal concerns step in and dim your view.

The business of the Kingdom is priority, not you.

Like Jesus in the temple who had been missing for three days.

His Father’s business was His goal, not the things along the way.

I hear the sound of thunder and the march of many feet.

All creation is on the move, it is marching through the streets.

If I don’t take advantage as this great throng passes by.

How can I lay down my head when the time has come to die?

Today, right now, the time is here, the Kingdom is at hand.

The cries of people all around can be heard throughout the land.

I want to be a Kingdom builder, I cannot sit idly by.

I’m determined to bring many to that Kingdom in the sky.

Fishers of Men

I will take you on a journey and I pray your vision’s clear.

Cause sometimes we get lost in life and walk other roads down here.

But if I’m fishing for a cause and have heard the Master’s call

I must be busy at His work and be willing to give my all.

My journey takes me to a lake that has fish of many kinds.

But the ice is thick and there is no door, this is work that is clearly mine.

I take my auger from its sheath and drill a path this day.

Now I can see the fish swim by, and I know this is the way.

Then I sit upon my stool and wait there all day long.

There is a pool, there are many fish and the day is almost gone.

But not a single catch is made and I ponder on this plight.

What have I done to reach them God; we are fast approaching night?

Well, the season for the harvest is coming to an end.

The ice is melting, I am sinking and my eyes are growing dim.

I’ll soon walk the way that all flesh walk, I have served my time down here.

But the fish still swim. I have not caught one, though I’ve heard the message clear.

They were all around, there were open doors and I knew what should be done.

But the comforts of my life on earth, I had not the will to shun.

Now I’ve no more time to fish for men and before the Judge I stand.

What will I say upon that day, as I yield to His command?

Lord now while I have time down here; let me your servant be.

Forsaking all things of the past and in charge of your myst-er-ies

For I know that you are at the helm, as I take this daunting task.

Then when life is o’er and my road here ends, it’s the only thing that will last.

Embraced, Equipped, Empowered

Jesus said, take up your cross and follow me today.

He said He’d make us “fishers” for mankind along the way.

I thought about that word awhile and said, “There’s action there.”

It’s not a Christian name we’re given to vegetate on here.

When He embraces us with love and we fall at His feet.

He’s asking us to move around and not just take a seat.

“Go ye into all the world,” we hear Him clearly say.

My children are in every town, they wait for you today.

Young or old, rich or poor, there’s no distinction made.

Through Him we’re not incapable when His great plans are laid.

He equips us with the tools we need to carry out His call.

That none be lost, is our mandate, yes we can reach them all.

When He empowers me I know that no task is too great.

By faith I can move mountains if on His command I wait.

Then I can reach a hurting world who needs to know God’s love.

And I’ll embrace, equip, empower, with this manna from above.
